Dark Ages and Medieval wargaming rulesets provide guidelines and mechanics for recreating battles from this period. Here are a few well-known rule sets:

Saga: Saga is a skirmish-level rule set published by Studio Tomahawk. It covers various periods, including the Dark Ages and early Medieval period. Saga focuses on warbands and heroes, with an emphasis on narrative-driven game play and unique faction abilities.

Lion Rampant: Lion Rampant is a rule set by Daniel Mersey, designed for recreating small to medium-sized battles in the medieval period. It is suitable for Dark Ages and Medieval conflicts and offers a flexible and accessible approach to wargaming, emphasizing unit activation and strategic maneuvering.

Hail Caesar: Hail Caesar, published by Warlord Games, covers a wide range of historical periods, including Dark Ages and Medieval warfare. It provides a more comprehensive approach to wargaming, allowing players to recreate large-scale battles with units representing individual troops.

Warhammer Ancient Battles: Although out of print, Warhammer Ancient Battles (WAB) by Games Workshop is still popular among some wargamers. The rules cover various ancient and medieval periods, including the Dark Ages and Medieval era, and incorporate elements of the Warhammer Fantasy Battle system.

De Bellis Magistrorum Militum (DBMM): DBMM is a set of rules published by the Society of Ancients. It covers a wide historical period, including the Dark Ages and Medieval era. DBMM offers a detailed approach to wargaming, focusing on historical tactics, army composition, and command decisions.
